Root motion is the movement from one chord's root to another chord's root.
（一個和絃的根音移動到另一個和絃的根音就叫根音運動）To demonstrate root motion, we will use a I and a vi chord in C Major.
（我們用I和vi來演示一下C大調的根音運動）The root of the I chord (a C major triad) is C.
（I（C的大三和弦）的根音是C）The root of the vi chord (an A minor triad) is A.
（vi（A的小三和弦）的根音是A）Therefore, the root motion between I and vi (C to A) is down a third.
